WonderSpace BLUE aims to provide faith-based and grief-informed peer support for children and their families as they navigate the complexities of life after loss where attendees…

…Belong: We foster a sense of community where individuals with similar experiences of loss come together to support one another.

…Listen: We offer a listening ear where we encourage each participant to share their grief stories.  As we listen to others share struggles similar to our own experiences, we reduce feelings of isolation and confusion in our journeys.

…Understand: We build our groups from an understanding that grief is a natural human response and can result in a range of expressions. Strengthening our understanding of this very normal and human experience helps us embrace our experiences rather than fight, hide, or regret normal responses to loss.

…Explore: There is a complexity of emotions that arise in the grieving process, and we understand that multiple emotions can coexist. Understanding this complexity allows us to explore life after loss authentically, completely, and honestly.

With these objectives in mind, we invite you in joining us in cultivating safety for all participants and therefore we ask that you agree to the following procedures.

Confidentiality: All discussions and shared experiences within the group are confidential. Staff and Volunteers are expected to respect the privacy of participants by not disclosing any personal information or identifying details outside of the group setting.

Consistent Attendance and Punctuality: Regular attendance is crucial for the continuity and effectiveness of the support group. Staff and volunteers are expected to attend all scheduled meetings and arrive on time. If unable to attend, advance notice to your supervisor is appreciated.

Listening: Active and empathetic listening is essential in creating a supportive environment. Staff and volunteers are encouraged to listen attentively when others are speaking, allowing everyone the opportunity to share their experiences and feelings without interruption or judgment.

Safety and Inclusion: All participants have the right to feel safe, respected, and included. Discriminatory language, harassment, or any form of verbal or physical aggression will not be tolerated. Respect for diverse experiences, backgrounds, and perspectives is expected from everyone in the group.

Use of Phones: To minimize distractions and maintain focus during group sessions, the use of phones, including texting, calling, or browsing, is prohibited. Staff, volunteers, and participants are requested to silence their phones or keep them out of sight during meetings.

No Use of Alcohol/Drugs: The consumption of alcohol or drugs before or during group sessions is strictly prohibited. Participants under the influence will be asked to leave the session to ensure the safety and integrity of the group.

Fragrance-Free Environment: To accommodate individuals with sensitivities or allergies, participants are requested to refrain from wearing strong fragrances, colognes, or perfumes during group meetings.

Participant privacy and confidentiality will be respected by BLUE staff and volunteers. Please note the following limitations. By checking yes, you acknowledge you have read them:

Mandatory Reporting: If a participant discloses information that indicates a clear and imminent threat to themselves or others, including instances of child or elder abuse, BLUE staff is obligated by law to report this information to the appropriate authorities for intervention and protection.

Risk of Harm: If a participant expresses intentions or plans to harm themselves or others, immediate action may be taken to ensure their safety or the safety of potential victims. This may include involving emergency services, family members, or other support systems to mitigate the risk of harm.

Supervision and Consultation: BLUE Staff and volunteers may consult with colleagues, supervisors (director), or other professionals for the purpose of supervision, training, or professional development. In these consultations, identifying details will be kept confidential, and the focus will be on providing the best possible support and guidance to the participant.

Religious Affiliation: WonderSpace is a ministry of College Wesleyan Church. Staff and volunteers must be comfortable working in a church setting. Attesting to a Christian statement of faith is required for companions and facilitators, and encouraged for hospitality team members.
